RE: Access 7.0 -> Informix 7.1-2
Posted in 1997
Hi Donald! INFORMIX-CONNECT This is the new version of INFORMIX-NET, it is intended to work as a = 32-BIT programming interface, This comes with ESQL/C DLL`s run time version. INFORMIX-CLI 2.50 This sould be called "INFORMIX-CLI 7.x", but informix names it 2.50=20 because of Micosoft ODBC 2.0, This is the ODBC Drivers which supports 32 BITS. In 16 bit versions they were named "INFORMIX-NET and INFORMIX-CLI" respectively. In your case, you will not need any connectivity product in the server = side, your version of SE already includes this programming interface, Just configure it. (If you have any questions configuring the serverside, you can e-mail me). In the Client Side, as you mentioned you had ACCESS 7.0, this access 7.0 looks for any ODBC-DRIVER within the ODBC-MANAGER for 32 BITS., So you need to install INFORMIX-CLI and INFORMIX-CONNECT. Please see that both products are not equal, If you are using a product which has the NATIVE ODBC drivers for informix, you will only need = INFORMIX-CONNECT (In some cases it is not necesary ) , but in the case = of ACCESS 7.0 (Which does not come with INFORMIX odbc already, do not = aske me why) you will need INFORMIX-CLI 2.50 I hope this helps, -------------------------------------------------------------------------= -- Mario Estrada / SISTECO, S.A. We have a current SE 2.10.03 database under SCO Enterprise 5 that we are migrating to SE 7.10.UD1. In addition, I have an additional requirement to access this with a Windows 95 box running Access 7. SQL Retreiver 4.0 was suggested as a means of getting from one point = to the other, so we bought that. My problems: 1) The retreiver documentation is poor on how to get the connection up and running. 2) I have only the runtime product for SE, ESQL/RT, and SQL. Therefore no documentation. 3) Tech support at either organization can't seem to understand I want to talk to a product other than the one they sell! (Actually understanable.) 4) Tech support for our main app has never done this. (Why do you want WIN95 to talk to Informix? Get X!) (Sigh.) What I could use is the following: 1) A clue. Will rent to own. FAQ is OK. 2) Documentation on setting up ESQL for TCP/IP access. 3) Setting up the ODBC driver to talk to ESQL. 4) If more info is needed I'd be glad to provide. -Don --=20 Don Mac Phee | The universe is not only stranger than we imagine; Systems Manager | it's stranger than we *CAN* imagine.
