RE: text field entry

Hi Richard! You did not mention what development tool you are using. In INFORMIX-4GL, suppose you have a field of type TEXT (Which is considered a BLOB TYPE) you must associate a program to this field, an you accomplished it by writing the program clause in the form file Eg. f001 = yourtable.yourfield, program = "wp", comments = "Press ctrl-! to edit this field"; As you can see once a user is positioned in the field f001 (In the form) then a comments would appear saying that if he/she want to deal with the text associated with it hen he/she has to press ctrl-! simultaneously. In the 4GL program you will have to say wheter the text field will located in memory or in a temporary file, so, you will have to use the "LOCATE" instruction within your 4GL program (Refer to your manual). I hope this helps, PS: If you are not using Informix 4GL , then you should post your message again, describing the software you are using for development :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- MARIO ESTRADA / SISTECO, S.A. Doing an insert keeps giving me an error 617 "A blob data type must be supplied". The index doesn't mention a blob data type. The section on datatypes doesn't let on. The section on insert is mute. I'm sure somebody somewhere knows how to insert text data in a "text" field.... but Informix sure isn't letting on. Any help appreciated greatly. rich@infoboard.com
