280 error

Hi ... I was trying to insert a character string of > 256 bytes into a field that is defined to be char(360) using dynamic SQL. The online engine returned an error of -280. Is this supposed to be a feature? The version of Informix is 5.01 on both client and server. Any help appreciated. Nai-Pin Koh
