The ESQL/C client does a connect() (with onsoctcp) to the database server on the server machine. If the result is EINPROGRESS, he calls select() with 4096 file descriptors in the writefds argument. Don't ask me why so many, but this is how it is done. On an average Linux he then gets EINVAL and this is the ISAM code that is then returned. On 2.0.x there is a patch that makes the NR_OPEN value configurable and I am looking for the same thing in 2.2.x. I have looked at the archived copies of c.d.i but did not find any useful info, but if it is available, it is a good candidate for the FAQ, IMHO. --Micha
