Re: Resizing Logical Logs
Posted in 1997
Bob,
If you haven't gotten the answer to this yet,
you need to add logs of the new size (in quiescent mode)
and then drop the old logs of the old size.
As Bill said, make sure LOGSMAX allows enough logs, then
1. Add your new logs using onmonitor or onparams, i.e.
onparams -a -d logspace -s 500 where -d is the dbspace to hold the logs and -s is the
size in kbytes of the new logs.
Repeat this for however many logs you want of the new size.
2. Perform an archive of the instance to make the new logs active.
3. Force the engine to use your new logs by doing onmode -l
repeatedly until the current log is one of your new ones. You can
check
by doing an onstat -l and look for the C flag next to the log.
4. Force a checkpoint by doing onmode -c. This will make the most =
recent
checkpoint be in your new log. (L flag in onstat -l)
5. Back up the old log file that was current to free it.
6. Now you can drop the old log files of the old size by using
onparams i.e. onparams -d -l 15 where -l is the log file number.
You can get more detailed info on this in the Admin Guide on page 23-8
under the section "Moving A Logical Log File to another dbspace"
Good Luck!

Hi,
Sizes for logical logs is done when the engine is initialized.
Therefore, you'de have to reinit the engine to change their size;
unless this has been changed recently - anyone?
What you can do is add more logical logs. This can achieve the same =
result.
You can add logs up to the LOGSMAX onconfig parameter (you are using
version 7?). BTW LOGSMAX can be changed without reiniting the engine
if it is too low. You will have to bring the engine down/up to make
the change effective. One other thing to note is that the logical
logs need to be backed up before they can be used.
Hope this helps,
Bill
