1. Make sure that INFORMIXDIR, INFORMIXSERVER, and ONCONFIG are set
within /etc/profile.
2. Make sure that $INFORMIXDIR/bin is part of the PATH as well, probably
within /etc/profile.
Sounds like a beginning.

And if the problem isn't environment, then ensure that permissions
are set correctly. If you did the install properly, maybe the problem
is that you haven't granted other users connect permission on the
database. Or it might be that your software was not installed
correctly. If you need to check this, try using ixchkperm and/or
ixsetperm from the utils_jl collection in the IIUG software archives,
at http://www.iiug.org/

If neither Carlson's nor my suggestions help, we need to know more
about the errors you're getting.
