If you look at the market analysts' reports, Oracle and IBM are neck
and neck for market share. This means that, as far as Wall Street and
related concentrations of power are concerned, Oracle is the enemy.
It's the Gold Rule: "Who has the gold, rules".
I have been told by a friend in IBM that the number one target platform
for US SMB's leaving Informix is MySQL, but IBM does not care so long
as they are not going to Oracle.
(Disclaimer, I make no judgements on the accuracy of his statement, but
I will vouch that he said it, which implies a mindset.)
