IBM seems to suffer from having a lot of politically correct people on board much as Informix did--very compatible with the old Informix. They appear to get DB2 or whatever through eventual sales rather than really saying anything compelling. I only learned of DB2's features through actually doing a proof-of-concept, none of the literature or marketing information was helpful at all. In fact it was quite confusing to say the least. DB2 Workgroup compares favorably with SQL-Server, but you only learn this by digging. Perhaps a lot of buyers don't know that Informix IDS is "above" the workgroup level and that you have to actually specify a workgroup product from Informix when comparing w/SQL-Server. Would it help in a marketing sense to have IBM simply do a better job of marketing DB2 or Informix as having "better features" than MS-SQL-Server, or is there some other reason people are choosing SQL-Server? Maybe what you need is a solid push of "Informix vs SQL-Server" or using the two together or ...
