Re: Informix & REMEDY

Hi,
I do not know what sort of volume of data you are talking about.
As a first step write a simple C-program (or use 'awk' utility) to parse
your data from flat files, strip-out or move around data as needed, insert
some delimiter ( '|' is the most favoured), and generate properly
formatted informix load file.
If you have too much of data to be loaded, then use dbload utility that
comes with the informix software. You may need to generate control files
as explained in the section describing dbload utility in Informix manuals
(look for DBA manuals).
If you have only a few thousand records to load, then you may use dbaccess
(or isql) and execute the following query.
Load from <load_file> insert into <table_name>.
If the data is available in a pre-formatted form but you have too much of
junk data, then setup a dummy table with junk columns, load the data into
the dummy table, drop all unneeded columns, unload data from the dummy
table, and load it back to the real table located in whichever machine or
site it may be present.
Unload may be done by executing the following command from dbaccess (or
isql):
Unload to <unload_file> delimiter "|" select * from <table_name>
Trust this helps your requirement.
Thanx.
Ravi.
