Flexible Grid and ER
Posted in 2012
A user setting up Enterprise Replication/Flexible Grid on two 11.70.FC4 Informix instances on Linux hit "command failed -- SQLHOSTS file has a problem with (g=) or (i=) option. (119)" when defining ER servers via OAT. Suggestions included avoiding duplicate dbservernames across protocols, checking INFORMIXSQLHOSTS/$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts, and testing connectivity (all fine). Pulling the actual commands from sysadmin:command_history showed OAT generating malformed arguments (a leading space before --init), so cdr parsed the server name wrongly; the advice was to run the cdr define server/define grid commands manually as user informix, suggesting an OAT bug. No confirmation of success is recorded.

I'm getting the error "Define ER server.... command failed -- SQLHOSTS file
has a problem with (g=) or (i=) option. (119)" my sqlhosts file is as follows
g_batman group - - i=487
lintest onsoctcp tfx3 8785 g=g_batman
lintest onipcshm tfx3 lintest
g_waynemanor group - - i=488
batcave onsoctcp tfx3 5857 g=g_waynemanor
batcave onipcshm tfx3 batcave
any ideas? both are on a linux box running IDS Verson 11.70.FC4

Response:
Well, I don't think it's going to work if you have duplicate dbservernames for
different protocols on the same machine. I didn't set up a test to see if
that's the same error I'd get if I tried to do something with the way you have
it configured. But I think that is going to be a problem at some point...so
you are going to need to change 1 of the 2 lintest lines and 1 of the 2
batcave lines so that all the 1st columns are unique...so maybe just go
lintest and lintest2/batcave and batcave2...just make sure you also update the
dbservername/dbserveralias values in your onconfig files as well.

Check your environment variable for $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS value - see if it
matches your sqlhosts file (the one you altered).
Post your complete "cdr define server" command, it´s easier for us to help
you....

Another great tip: check the connection between them through dbaccess first,
using Connection-> Connect option,
the groups must appear there, choose one of them, and see if it works.

I removed the SHM connection for lintest and batcave and left the TCP connection to no avail. Still the same error but I'll be leaving them out since I really don't need them anyway. Thanks
The connecting from one to the other works both ways(which I never thought to check :)). The $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS though I tried echo $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS and got nothing so I'm not sure what you were meaning here. Thank you for your help though :)

Also, can you include your cdr define server command as well? Jacques Renaut IBM Informix Advanced Support APD Team
Ok if your INFORMIXSQLHOSTS is not set, and your dbaccess is connecting from
both sides,
you should be doing something wrong in your cdr define server.
Please post your command here, with server and group real names defined, so
that we could try to see what is going on.

yeah that's what's in there. I can cross connect to select/update/insert but cannot add replication.
In OAT it's one of the few screens that doesn't give me the option to see the SQL unfortunately. The group and real names are the ones listed in the sqlhosts. g_batman group - - i=487 lintest onsoctcp tfx3 8785 g=g_batman g_waynemanor group - - i=488 batcave onsoctcp tfx3 5857 g=g_waynemanor

Response:
Ok from another 1 of your posts it seems you are using OAT to define the
server. Can you try it again, and as soon as you get the error, on whatever
server you tried to define, can you run onstat -m and post that output? It
seems from the code if that error is coming from the server, then there should
be an associated error in onstat -m output as well.
Also, if OAT is submitting this via the SQL api, which I'd think it would
(sorry not a lot of experience using OAT personally), you might do a select *
from sysadmin:command_history and that might show the command it tried to
run...so see if you have anything in that command_history table with cdr
define server in it and post that output if there is any.

If this is from OAT, then OAT is not creating the correct command line= . The parameters can not start with a leading space such as ' --init...'= . That will cause problems because the cdr utility will not be able to pa= rse the input parameters. The reason that you are getting a problem is bec= ause the cdr utility is thinking that the server name is " --init g_batman"= which of course is not in your sqlhostfile. Try running the commands as user informix. cdr define server -c g_batman --ats=3D/tmp/ats --ris=3D/tmp/ris --init = g_batman cdr define server -c g_wayneman --ats=3D/tmp/ats --ris=3D/tmp/ris --sync=3Dg_batman --init g_wayneman cdr define grid -c g_batman Gotham --all From: Jacques Renaut/Lenexa/IBM@IBMUS To: ids@iiug.org, Date: 08/16/2012 07:13 AM Subject: Re: Flexible Grid and ER [28061] Sent by: ids-bounces@iiug.org Original post: cdr define server', '--ats=3D/tmp/ats', '--ris=3D/tmp/ris', '--atsrisformat=3Dtext', ' --init g_batman' 'cdr', 'define grid Gotham g_batman ' 'cdr define server', '--ats=3D/tmp', '--ris=3D/tmp', '--atsr isformat=3Dtext', '--leaf', '--sync=3Dg_batman --init g_waynemanor' 'cdr define server', '--ats=3D/tmp', '--ris=3D/tmp', '--atsr isformat=3Dtext', '--nonroot', '--sync=3Dg_batman --init g_wayneman or' cmd_ret_status 119 cmd_ret_msg command failed -- SQLHOSTS file has a problem with (g=3D) o= r (i=3D) option.
