The documentation "Online > Administration Guide", 3-38 states "If a logical log backup fails > the next logical log backup session begins with the logical log file > that was being backed up when the failure occurred." As nearly as I can > tell, that is precisely our situation and we are not getting that > logical log file backed up on either tape. In reading your message, I couldn't help but wonder that given that your logical logs are relatively small, is it possible that the Unix buffering for devices actually holds multiple logs in the buffer and that Informix believes that logs have been written. What is the greatest number of log files that have been lost? And since I am not a Unix Guru yet what is the size of the Unix device buffer? I assume that it may be configurable. It could be conceivable that Informix is "successfully" writing the logs to the tape (although actually buffered and not yet written to tape.) You might try increasing the size of your logical logs to be greater than the amount of data apparently lost in order to insure that you are not being bit by the Unix output buffering. I do realize that changing the log sizes are painful, so maybe someone else could confirm or discount my initial guess at your situation. ----- Ken Evilsizor Email: ken@carsinfo.com Mgr of Research Group CARS Information Systems Disclaimer: All opinions expressed are Cincinnati, OH 45241 definitely my own.
