RE: Application Development Tool

Paul, NewEra is a super-set of C++, thus, if you use the Microsoft C++ 5.0, compiler, your applications will be faster than Visual Basic. You should ask yourself Why Microsoft has Visual Basic and C++. Informix NewEra is more easy to use if you have knowledege of 4GL and have concepts of the OO paradigm. 1. Ease of use: With Datadirector for VisualBasic, both products are easy to use, because the supertable feature of NewEra is something similar to this 2. Functionality. NewEra has all the functionality for database access, Visual Basic has some old control capable of such a task but without some plug-in I think managing information, cursors, transactions are more dificult in Visual Basic. 3. Efectiveness. Once the application is well-written and well-design, no matter how long it took to get running, It will serve the main purpose. 4. Robustness. The executable file in C++ will always have a better performance than those executable files from Visual Basic. 5. Security. Nothing is as secured as a Java Applet :-) , So , try Informix-Data Director for JAVA JAVA JAVA JAVA. I have been evaluating the INFORMIX DataDirector for JAVA for 3 months and I think it has some future in the development arena for Informix Users. What are the advantages / disadvantages of using Visual Basic instead of NewEra or Delphi for developing a front end to an Informix Database in the following areas: 1. Ease of use 2. Functionality 3. Effectiveness 4. Robustness 5. Security Also, is any significant differences between Visual Basic 4.0 and Visual Basic 5.0 for this purpose? Paul Jones
