Send a copy of your followup to root > and newsmaster of (her)his provider. 1) Learn how to trim the Newsgroups: line in your favorite newsreader. If you *do* choose to followup to this kind of SPAM (highly ineffective, since SPAMers rarely read the victim newsgroups), at least limit your response to your particular newsgroup. 2) Learn about the Followup-To header. If what you have to say is so important that every spammed newsgroup needs to hear it (and it probably isn't), then at least have to courtesy to kill the thread in the other newsgroups so we don't have to deal with it. For example, followups to this article will go to alt.flame (I don't even know if that is a real group, but I don't care). 3) If you decide to complain to the service provider, check the message carefully. Most SPAM messages are forged or have bogus From: or Reply To: headers. You may be able to trace the route the message took to get to your news server, but by this time you have spent more time and energy than the spam probably deserves. 4) Learn how do delete messages that tick you off. The best way to deal with a pest is to ignore him. Especially in the case of SPAM, since the pest is already long gone. -- Jim Melton, novice guru | As far as we know, e-mail: jim.melton@lmco.com | our computer has never had v-mail: (303) 714-9732 | an undetected error
