Hmm, is it possible that a second logical log completes while the prior one
is still being backed up? That would also prevent a new lock file from being
written. Preventing two copies of ontape -a from running is the other use of
the lock files. This is most likely if your logical logs have all been
backed up. Look at the Informix message log. If the log archive message
following the error return 6 message includes two or more logical logs than
this may be the case and it's nothing to worry about. It's normal if your
logical logs are small or there is a massive amount of logical log activity.
Do you not notice the messages about eventalarm's return during quiet times
when a log completes and is archived?
