Hmmm... not quite. What we have is a port to the AT&T 6386 (also works for Starserver) using AT&T SVR4. "Compaq" is a machine designation; ports for Interactive and SCO are listed under Compaq as a hardware type, because that's what it's certified on. >My question is, what differences could there be in the different ports and >shouldn't I be able to run any of the V 4 Informix ports on the Dell port >of the O/S? In *THEORY*, yes. HOWEVER, if we haven't tested it, we can't support it on other O/Ses. We don't have Dell SVR4 (or Interactive/Intel SVR4 or UHC or Microport or ESIX, for that matter) in-house to test with. (if a Dell reader wants to throw me a full O/S set, drop me some email [-:). Compatiblity is a sore subject. For example, we've tried to standardize on a single base port for 386 UNIXes (ISC, SCO, AT&T). The ISC-ported products passed compatibility easily on AT&T but failed on SCO (on SCO, random core files were produced for no apparent reason. ick.) The only place I'd *expect* incompatibilities is networking, as AT&T's SVR4 has the StarGroup stuff. (By the way, if anybody is getting the AT&T 6386 SVR4 ports of the 4.10 products, watch out; there was an erroneous assumption that libnet.a was bundled with the base O/S, and the compiled products now depend upon it. If you don't have the networking package installed, you won't be able to use compiled 4GL or ESQL/C. A re-port of this is being scheduled.) I recently bought a personal copy of Consensys SVR4, with which I'll do some experimenting with the AT&T SVR4 port on my own... >I asked these questions of my Informix sales rep who replied he'ld check >into it but I'd like to get an answer before the year 2010 rolls around. >If anyone out there is running Informix on Dell O/S or has any info pro/con >on the idea, your e-mail would be appreciated.
