RE: Anyone Using Security Option under SQLHOSTS?

On turning teh security option off there is a need for identification which is easily achieved by putting the server name in the /etc/rhosts file. You have two standards here which is by adding the server name and so every one gets through or put in server name along with tab and the user name as another entry. Dont mix the two. I believe it is either or which is individual username entries with server name or only server name so then no each user has to be validated. Date: Monday, December 09, 1996 7:19PM Hi, I would like to know if anyone has used the security option feature under sqlhosts where you can specify r=x for client settings and s=x for server settings. This feature is available starting in 7.1 and allows you to disable or enable(default) the /etc/hosts.equiv and the ~/.rhosts lookup feature when connecting to a remote database. I have set my option to r=0,s=0 on a 7.12.uc3 system on both the client and server side which says to disable the lookup of whether a client host is trusted. However, when I connect to the remote database, I get the -956 message saying that I'm not a trusted user. Any thoughts on this one would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. -- Melvin Mariney, Informix DBA e-mail: melvin.mariney2@bridge.bellsouth.com
