My $0.01:
Everybody outside Europe tries to avoid ANSI databases, am I right ???
Here we can not:
therefore standardisation (of user names, table names ....) counts
and standardisation is a big percentage of every design here.
I too have to live with all that nasty 'features' of mode ANSI databases
and more to come
like
fill precentages in the Logical Log blocks written to disk where I jump
when > 4 % ....
No mode switching to non ANSI
No easy way to delete records from a table with dbaccess without
producing a LTX
No easy way to do things like
ALTER TABLE .... to reorganise extent contention - whenever it comes to
a sort: see above - implicit sorts DO leave their traces in the Logical Log
E.Suto's very good book and others in fact do mislead you when you run a
mode ANSI database & look up chapters speaking about sizing of everything
which has to do with after image logging.
Good luck & please Jonathan, let me learn what I do not know already
by keeping on posting such valuable details
I was on V4.10/SCO long time, before that on 2.10K/XENIX
(late '80ies)
Now I am second level DBA with 135 machines /
SNI SINIX V5.43 & INFORMIX V7.12 maybe moving to V7.2x in the next months.
135 mode ANSI databases are the reason why I post only rarely - sorry,
no more time left & my poor English does the rest
Best regards
