What is the best emulator for Linux and SE

I have Linux and Informix SE 7.2X installed on it. Backspace no longer works even though I tried using relection for terminal emulator and exported TERM=vt100. Also I am unable to map DEL key to abort instead of CTRL-C And I cannot map the function keys for other functionality. How can I handle these mapping and emulation problems. Some also map the key in the <Del> key position to <BS> but some also generate <DEL> from that key also. If you cannot convince the emulator to have the key above <ENTER> generate <BS> you will just have to live with it and use stty to map <DEL> to the erase-char function: stty erase \\<DEL> # Meaning press backslash then DEL usually displayed # as ^? If the keypad delete key is generating <BS> you can also use stty to remap it to the interrupt function: stty intr \\^H > And I cannot map the function keys for other functionality. > > How can I handle these mapping and emulation problems. I have read stty already. Tried all combinations. But I am either missing something or the SE version I have has a bug in it. Read somewhere about ESC and Function keys not mapping right. But I am not sure if it applies to my version. Art, As per your suggestion tried stty intr \\<DEL> I have done that before on an HP-UX platform, Works great. But Linux rejected that entry saying that it was an unacceptable entry. At unix level backspace works like it should. So why is Informix not seeing it. I even tried all combinations of TERMCAP, INFORMIXTERM and TERM env variables. I even tried to set options in the code to say accept as F1, delete as F2. Did not like it. So what else could cause this problem. Tried wy50, wyse, vt100 and some other term types. Nothing has helped so far. There are a few commands on stty as follows -parenb -parodd cs8 -clocal -loblk -ortsfl -ctsflow -rtsflow -ignbrk brkint ignpar -parmrk -inpck istrip -inlcr -igncr icrnl -iuclc ixon ixany -ixoff isig icanon -xcase echo -echoe echok -echonl -noflsh -iexten -tostop -xclude opost -olcuc onlcr -ocrnl -onocr -onlret -ofill -ofdel Can I change any of these to make a difference. Please help. Deadline is closing in.... Any help will be enormously appreciated.
