This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

Question to Informix & HP/UX guru's, on shared memory segments greater than 2
GB for HP/UX 11.0
using Informix 7.30UC3-1. First, apply OS patch PHKL_16236 to HP/UX 11.0 then
refer to 7.30UC3 release
notes item 18 where it refers to the 'chatr -M <executable>' command (change
attribute). It discusses
the SHMEM_MAGIC feature to enable the OS to access 1GB of memory above the
1.75 GB limit (actual limit
without the patch). This SHMEM_MAGIC feature effectively supports 2.75 GB of
shared memory.
The question is which specific Informix binaries require execution as
SHMEM_MAGIC enabled
(ie chatr -M <informix executable>)? Is it all the members in the IDS bin
directory or a subset as those
listed as BRAND in the 7.30UC3 'IDSfiles' (residing in informix/etc
subdirectory formally in 'onlinefiles' file
of same directory)?
With SHMEM_MAGIC enabled why does the Informix resident and virtual portion of
shared memory occupy
2 separate memory segments (not shared as given by onstat -g seg command if the
instance size is < 1 GB).
If there are additional questions as to specifics or clarifications I would be
glad to respond.

Ed Rollings
