Any attachment, no matter what the original was (even plain text) is considered a binary because you necessarily have to encode it, otherwise it wouldn't be an attachment. This is a good way to get newsgroups automatically deleted off numerous NNTP servers, since many sites use automatic scripts that scan newsgroups for binaries in non-binary groups, and deletes the group (yes, the ng, very draconian that) Also, if any one has cancelbots sitting on newsgroups cancelling binary postings, this would be canceled instantly.
