Hi, I have been given the task of upgrading an Informix 5 database to Informix 7. Has anyone here had any experience of this and are there any problems associated with it? cheers Michael
I have upgraded a number of databases and in general there are no
problems. However:
i) The rock-sure method is to dbexport & dbimport as then all
tables including system catalogues are rebuilt.
ii) If you can't do the above, bcheck *all* tables including system
catalogues - you have to be informix to do these. Once OK take a
backup! Then simply open the database with Informix 7 & run update
Statistics.
iii) If ii) above fails restore the database and (last ditch before
resorting to i) above) run 'bcheck -s' on the system catalogues
(sys*.dat) which will rebuild the '.idx' files and hopefully that will
cure the situation.
However....
Presumably you also have some programs possibly written in 4GL.
Programs, forms & reports will all need recompiling and you will
probably find some new compilation errors as the compiler is 'fussier'
in the new version.
