Yes, this is expected. The UPPER function is not available in
the 9.1x program. It comes in the 7.3/9.2 versions. 7.3 is
available now, but 9.2 will not be generally available until
next year.
The 9.1x engine is searching for your own personal routine named
UPPER (which you can certainly create and use) and not able to
resolve it.
