James/Jim, Linux (pronounced "lee-nucks") is a free version of Unix, initially developed by a bloke called Linus Torvalds, somewhere in Scandanavia. It has been further developed by a wide variety of people all around the world (all of them independently wealthy, judging by the free time they seem to have! :) It is a _complete_ Unix, including X windows, various shells, compilers, perl, http servers, TCP/IP, the lot! There is no copyright for the software and it is downloadable from a number of FTP sites. A full installation will require something like 97 stiffies (!) Check out http://www.linux.org for more info. HTH. BTW, Why do you call yourself Jim and sign yourself James? :) Hasta la vista! -- billy.wheeler@pixie.co.za
