Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
The poster asked whether any tool exists to extract individual tables (as load files) from an ontape level-0 archive, since the Informix-supplied tool reportedly only covered versions up to 7.24 and he needed 7.3x. One reply pointed to the IIUG's ARCUNLOAD utility, but another user warned it appeared to corrupt the sysmaster catalog, leaving an undroppable table that forced a database rebuild, so it should only be used in test environments. The poster noted ARCUNLOAD wasn't being updated for 7.3x, and no working solution for his version is recorded; a side discussion about making ontape restore data to different chunks also went unanswered.

If you succeed (in three days?), please share with the rest of us?
While you'r at it, -could you hack ontape so it relocates
the data to different chunks at restore?

Hi,
is someone out there who developed a program to extract
tables from an ontape level-0 archive ?
If I cannot find such a tool I guess I will have to
write it. And I was looking forward to have 3 days off.
TIA

Far as I know they had a tool for versions
up to 7.24. I will need it for 7.3x.

Sure I will share it, if some guys of this NG will support me.
I still have no idea how I will find out the different table-
layouts after an "in place alter table". I just know how to
retrieve all the partition pages for a specific table.

Why don't you use "links" ?

Stefan:
Be aware of the disclaimers that come with the ARCUNLOAD utility. I ran the
ARCUNLOAD utility a few weeks back to try to restore a specific table from a
LEVEL-0. Although it "appeared" to allow me to load the data into the table,
it apparently corrupted the SYSMASTER tables. After the load I was unable to
access or DROP the corrupt table. Basically, the table showed up in the
schema, but was unaddressable. In order to get rid of the table, I had to
recreate the database.
In other words, this utility to should be used in a test environment only.

I do, but we run several informix-instances on the same machine and
sometimes (many!) we have to copy our production-instance to a
test-instance for testing.
'ontape -r' asks me if I'd like to retore to the chunks of the
instance copied _from_ -which I don't;)

Hi all,
sorry, I forgot to tell you that I will need
the tool for version 7.3x and later. Far as
I know arcunload will not be upgraded to any
new version.
