User is not trusted (user@machine.domain)
Posted in 2011
A Windows XP client connecting via SetNet32 to IDS 11.5 on Windows 2003 kept failing with -956 "Client host or user ... is not trusted by the server" (and -951), since the client machine/user differed from the server's. Suggestions were to edit the server's %windir%\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts.equiv, first testing with a lone '+' (early replies were garbled by stray characters, causing confusion), then listing the client host. The poster resolved it by adding the client's host/domain name as its own line in hosts.equiv.

First, sorry for my English! U.U I'm working on a Windows enviroment (server and client) When I try to conect to server using SetNet32 utility, the log file (server side) record the next line: 17:00:48 listener-thread: err = -956: oserr = 0: errstr = jsoto@informix@goncesoto.opensite.com[goncesoto.opensite.com]: Client host or user jsoto@informix@goncesoto.opensite.com[goncesoto.opensite.com] is not trusted by the server. jsoto= My user name informix = The user name I typed on SetNet32 ('Host Information' tab > User name) It doesn't allow me to leave it blank. goncesoto= Machine name opensite= My domain I think I should add my user on the server machine in order Informix "recognize it", but I can't because the machine name is different: My PC = goncesoto.opensite.com (user: jsoto@goncesoto.opensite.com) Server = informixserver.opensite.com (user: informix@informixserver.opensite.com) If I run the ILogin on server it works fine, but in client side it returns Sql Error -951 (the same as above) and the log file (server side) record the same. I've already add the service name on 'services' file (WINDOWS\\\\system32\\\\drivers\\\\etc). I'm using 'Protocol name' onsoctcp. In Enviroment tabe, I checked "Use my settings" (If I unchecked is the same) Server: Windows 2003 - Informix Dynamic Server 11.5 Client: Windows XP - SetNet32 3.5 Can anybody help me? Thank you!
You could update the %windir%\\\\system32\\\\drivers\\\\etc\\\\hosts.equiv file on the server - just to test the problem you could a '+' in there. If it fixes the problem, put the client machine name or machine name and user name. In %windir%\\\\system32\\\\drivers\\\\etc\\\\hosts.equiv file (server) I added the line 10.101...(Client IP) informix@goncesoto.opensite.com But now I changed it to 10.101...(Client IP) goncesoto.opensite.com But it doesn't work either, but now the log file add this line: 18:17:09 listener-thread: err = -956: oserr = 0: errstr = informix@goncesoto.opensite.com: Client host or user informix@goncesoto.opensite.com is not trusted by the server. 'informix@goncesoto.opensite.com' is basically the user I need because 'informix' user is registered on server, but It doesn't work. I've changed ONLY the hosts.equiv file on server machine, NOT client machine, do I need to changed it in both sides? and should I restart the server service on server machine?
Suppose instead of adding any lines you just add a +=0D=0DI don't mean leav= e it like that, but just to see if that is where the problem lies. =0A= -----Original Message----- From: INFANTE SOTO Sent: Wednesday, August 10, 2011 6:22 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: User is not trusted (user@machine.domain) [24596] In %windir%\\\\system32\\\\drivers\\\\etc\\\\hosts.equiv file (server) I added the line= =20 10.101...(Client IP) informix@goncesoto.opensite.com=20 But now I changed it to=20 10.101...(Client IP) goncesoto.opensite.com=20 But it doesn't work either, but now the log file add this line:=20 18:17:09 listener-thread: err =3D -956: oserr =3D 0: errstr =3D=20 informix@goncesoto.opensite.com: Client host or user=20 informix@goncesoto.opensite.com is not trusted by the server.=20 'informix@goncesoto.opensite.com' is basically the user I need because=20 'informix' user is registered on server, but It doesn't work. Hi, add goncesoto.opensite.com as separate line in hosts.equiv. Hi guys. If I delete all the lines and I just add '+=00D' the log file returns the same: 09:11:36 listener-thread: err = -956: oserr = 0: errstr = informix@goncesoto.opensite.com: Client host or user informix@goncesoto.opensite.com is not trusted by the server. But if I add '+=00D' to the domain (+=00Dgoncesoto.opensite.com), the log file returns this 08:57:29 listener-thread: err = -951: oserr = 0: errstr = informix@+=00Dgoncesoto.opensite.com[goncesoto.opensite.com]: Incorrect password or user informix@goncesoto.opensite.com is not known on the database server.
You should add just plus sign in hosts.equiv file: + and nothing else (without =00D - these are result of some readers) HTH Hrvoje On 11.08.2011. 18:14, INFANTE SOTO wrote: > Hi guys. Thanks to everyone for your interest. Finally I fixed it. I add only the domain name on hosts file as Marcus Haarmann said and it works. Thank you again!
