Web Server/Informix Env Variables
Posted in 1999
Hello all,
I have got some simple shell scripts that use isql to call a IDS 7.3 instance running on a sparc box. The scripts are running on SCO os5.04. They run as expected except when the web server runs them via CGI. I get an error saying INFORMIXSERVER is not set.
I understand now that the CERN web server does not read the user that it is running as .profile. So as a fix, I added the INFOMIXSERVER stuff to a script I already use to call isql.
-------
#!/bin/sh
INFORMIXSERVER=dbservernameexport INFORMIXSERVER
/usr/informix/bin/isql -s $1 -
-------
My main question is, I have a lot of scripts that call the script above to query/modify the database running remotely, and they are all high use. Is there any particular problem with a) using a script like that to call isql, b) set and export the environment variable so often, like should I consider finding a way for CERN to read the damn environment variables of the user?
Thanks for any feedback, I greatly appreciate it.
