Terminal software that comes bundled "free" with other stuff is often
worth every penny you pay for it. You need to know what terminal the sw
is supposed to emulate and set your TERM environment for that. It may
be, however, that the sw does not exactly emulate the terminal in which
case you may need to create a new termcap entry based on the original.
It may even be that your sw may not even be consistent in operation - my
current site uses sw which seems to have problems.
I understand Talking Windows operates well in your environment (I know a
site that's using it with a lot of users and havn't heard of problems
there).
My preference, however, would be to get an X server on the PC and use
xterm. (SAM works well under X as well).

PS, they may have fixed it now but in earlier versions there was a
problem with elm -z setting VT100 and relatives (including xterm) to
keypad mode if there was no mail to display. I had elm -z in my .cshrc
and isql had problems which went away if I ran vi. Eventually I got an
incantation involving tput which was run after elm and which fixed it.
Surely they don't still have that bug?.....
