DBSPACETEMP
Hi All, I´ve got 2 qeustions: 1) are there known problems between tempdbspace and Informix 7.31? 2) what happens if i set DBSPACETEMP in onconfig to other dbspaces and NOT to a tempdbspace? Thanks in advance, Alex

Logging of temp tables is only necessary for processes which use them and rely on the ability to rollback stuff that happens in a temp table (eg by pressing a Cancel key or something). If that's the case, then by default, explicit temp tables that are NOT created with the "WITH NO LOG" syntax will be logged anyway. One project worth undertaking to fully exploit temp dbspaces is to make all programs (that you can) use totally unlogged temp tables, by using explicit delete statements where necessary. Implicit temp tables used during queries will be logged in normal dbspaces but unlogged in temp dbspaces, so always attempt to have decent temp dbspaces. B) If the DBSPACETEMP space used is also holding real, growing tables, then slowly but surely, over time, the space available for temp tables will disappear and eventually programs will start to fail thru the inability to allocate space either for temp tables or for real rows. So, if you are wondering whether to use temp dbspaces - I say - go for it. You'll come out ahead. Multiple spaces across multiple disk spindles are even better on really busy systems
DBSPACETEMP can contain either regular or temporary dbspaces or a mix. If a mix then logged temp tables will go to the regular dbspaces listed and non-logged temp tables to the temporary ones. Art S.
