We recently ran into a situation where our chunks were full. We could not
insert any additional records, even after deleting some existing records. We
unloaded and reloaded the tables causing the problem and were then able to
continue with inserts.
My first question is: why do we now see a difference of 16Mb in free space (in
a 50Mb db) once we have performed the unload/reload? If that 16Mb was indeed
available, why didn't the deletion of some records free the space for more
inserts? I know that deleting records will not cause more free space to appear
in onstat (the tablespaces will not contract), but the space should be
available for more records going into the same tables.
My second question is: how can I tell how much space is available in an extent?
BTW: we're running under Online 7.11.
Thanks, Mark.
