Well, let's try in detail:
On SCO:
1. $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts should contain
servernm ontlitcp hostnm onlinetcp
2. /etc/services should contain:
onlinetcp 1027/tcp
3. $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG should have an entry:
DBSERVERNAME servernm
NETTYPE tlitcp,1,,NET # Of course you could set CPU instead of
# NET here
On Windows:
1. <win95dir>/services should contain an entry
onlinetcp 1027/tcp # Pay attention to "/tcp"
2. Start the SetNet utility and:
- Go to Servers tab and set:
Server name: servernm
Host name : hostnm
Service name: onlinetcp # You could try setting just 1027 here
Protocol : onsoctcp
- Save this definition
- Make this server DEFAULT server
- Go to hosts tab and set:
Host name : hostnm
User name : informix or whatever user you will use
Password : No Password
- Save this host definition
- Go to first tab, as I remember it is Environment
In this tab the following variables should be set:
INFORMIXDIR _you_informix_installation_dir_
INFORMIXSERVER servernm
- Save the configuration and exit.
3. At DOS command line try:
ping hostnm
Ping the host by the name you have set in SetNet utility.
Don't add the domain name. Write it exactly as in SetNet.
4. To ensure you have deal with the right host try to run:
telnet hostnm
You have to get the right login prompt. Login to UNIX host
and check with onstat you have your server in OnLine mode.
As an additional check run (of course on UNIX host):
netstat -na | grep 1027
You should have opened a socket on 1027 port in LISTEN state.
tcp 0 0 your_address.1027 *.* LISTEN
5. In windows launch ILogin and set there the right values.
Try to connect to an existing database on server.
What IConnect version do you have ?
Hope it helps,
Octav
