Yes, I understand this and did not suggest this approach. My guess is management is trying to find ways to save money and get out of the red ink we are in for next fiscal year.
So I was asked to see if it is possible to have this one server do the work of two.

HDR is going to be tough to do on a single server. It is possible on UNIX by using relative path names and then being sure to start the engine and ontape in the correct directories. Sorta - but not highly suggested.
Question - since the purpose of HDR is to provide HA for the failure of physical media, why are you setting up HDR on a single server. That's going to be forcing you onto a common physical media, which sort of defeats the goal of HA.
