RE: Looks Like The Party Is Over In Menlo - Ardent
Posted in 2000
I have worked with Ardent software (Unidata) for couple years. The biggest problem for me was inability to transport data to anything 3rd party... Unidata/Universe are U2 type databases, not DB2, so ODBC was not an option. Overall it's O.K. standalone product for small companies (in my case smaller colleges - who could not afford Informix or Oracle). It's awfully easy to administer with some knowledge of UNIX. I was a bit surprised when Informix purchase Ardent (I hope it's not only for the DataStage...), because one of Informix officials on one of the user groups conferences mentioned that Informix had no intention to improve or develop U2 databases further. ** just my 2 cents ** Elena. -----Original Message----- From: Mike Segel [mailto:Postmaster@iiug.iiug.org] Sent: Tuesday, August 15, 2000 12:16 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Looks Like The Party Is Over In Menlo (2nd try) DICK PICK IS DEAD!
