One very common situation where the above error occurs is when the "sqlexec" entry in the "services" file is on the last line of the file, and not followed by a "<CR><LF>". If the DOS end-of-file marker sits on the same line as the service entry, it will not be read correctly by the TCP/IP protocol stack. This is DOS's fault, not Informix's or Intersolv's. Of course, you have to make sure that the line in the services file is identical on all machines involved. You can call the service whatever you like, and you can assign it to any port number you wish, but you have to do the same on all your machines wishing to communicate via that service, and make sure it doesn't conflict with other services. : I'm getting to the server at this point. ILOGIN gives me an error -912 : Network error - Could not write to database server. Trying to connect : through Vision:Data, Intersolv ODBC gives me the same message. Have you tried to connect to the database after logging in on the server with the user id you are using via ODBC? Maybe permissions and/or database privileges are not ok on the server in the first place? Another problem might be special characters in your user id and password. Remember, Windows uses the ANSI character set, while all flavors of UNIX I know of use ASCII. I assume, of course, that your server is UNIX-based.
