Re: Klingon Question.

There is no official reason for the difference in Klingon appearance. FASA's role-playing game from the 80's speculated that the original series Klingons were mixed Klingon and human fusions to infiltrate the Federation. However, Andre Bormanis, the Star Trek shows' science advisor, speculates in his new book that the later "bumpy" Klingons are actually the result of a Klingon super-soldier program of genetic engineering. The only problem with this is why Kor, Koloth, Kang, and Kahless have all appeared as "smooth" and "bumpy" Klingons. There is a simple and reasonable explanation. All Klingons develop the ridged forehead. However, the "smooth" Klingons develop it sometime during middle age. The engineered "bumpy" Klingons are born with the ridges. They also engaged in nearly genocidal civil wars with the "smooth" Klingons, which explains Worf's discomfort with his dishonorable ancestors' actions. Some of you may remember my long-winded elaboration on the "Fusion Theory" that I was posting a few months back. After reading Mr. Bormanis's book, "Star Trek Science Logs," I have abandoned the Fusion idea in favor of the one I described above. I am presently writing up a more, shall we say, formal version of it, which I will post soon (maybe even today). -McReynolds
