I would be very surprised if you got IDS Workgroup running on Win 2000. My experience has been that IDS is sensitive to Service Pack levels on NT 4.0 and as far as know, Informix does not have nor seems to be planning a port to Win 2000. Much of the pro-Windows info has disappeared from their web site and Informix seems to be no longer interested in Windows as a platform. Well, I suspectthat the response that you got from the tech support person had to do with the knowledge of the tech support person. Currently prior to including any new code into the engine, the R&D engineer must build and test his code on NT so Informix is not in the process of dropping NT. What you say about Service Pack levels is very true, however. We often encounter Microsoft bugs for which we have to create a work-arround. Often this involves having to put in specific code to handle those bugs in the NT product. When Microsoft then releases a subsequent Service Pack, it is possible that the bug will have been corrected and possibably invalidate the work-arround that we put into the engine. That means that we have to re-engineed the original workarround. I installed bot IDS 7.31.TC4 and IDS.2000 on Win2000 without problems.
However instalation script objects about NTFS file system (error 105).
Workaround
is to modify installation scripts. They are .ini files in __Install
subdirectory.
There is a description of each product with the target system it requires.
Just change every reference of WINNT to WINXX. Be sure to install it on NTFS
partition. The only problem I found (and that may be because I work with
beta
version of Win2K is that when I start engine as a service onstat does not
work.
If I start it from the console (just running oninit -vy) everything works
fine.
I suppose this has to do with some access rights.
Hope this helps
