Visionary accepts CHAR, not LVARCHAR

I am writing a function for IUS that takes an integer, and returns several lines of text in an LVARCHAR. It returns as expected in SQLEditor, but when I use the function in Visionary, I get Failed to execute query. Program type out of range. It does work if I change the returning variable from LVARCHAR to CHAR(80), but I need to return more that 255 characters. Can I get Visionary to handle an LVARCHAR? Thanks, DJ Coady
