Re: "IDS seems to have shutdown cleanly"
Posted in 2012
User sought bug reports and PMRs for IDS 11.70 on Windows. After checking IBM support site documentation and release notes, no known issues matching their connection problem were found. Fernando Nunes suggested the problem might be related to Windows network configuration (VPNs, multiple network interfaces) causing hostname resolution issues between server startup and connection attempts. No resolution was confirmed in the thread.

Whether we want to accept it or not, Windows is a necessary evil and sometimes we have to sleep with the devil! Where can I find bug reports and PMR's for the Windows version of 1170?
Not listed that way. You can go to the support web site and search for PMRs by key words, but no gurantees that anyone put the keywords for windows in there. Art Art S. In the "Downloads" section of the IBM support site, there's a Readme/Techdoc for each release that lists the APARs fixed in that particular release. The Windows and Unix fixes are combined, though. Not aware of an easy way to get a list of Windows-only APARs. On Mon, May 7, 2012 at 4:23 PM, FRANK J. I researched that list plus the release notes that came with the 1170 download, but did not see anything related to the connection problem that Art and I have experienced. Perhaps because very few users are running the 1170 Windows version, this may very well be a new problem!
I currently don't have IDS on my laptop.... mainly because I typically use it on VMs. But I usually do, and that problem usually is related to what we do with windows... A lot of virtual network interfaces, VPNs etc... so sometimes things get messy and we end up with weird setups... a simple ping to the hostname sometimes uses one interface, sometimes another... a typical scenario is when you startup the instance, than connect to a VPN, and then try to access the instance... the same hostname now gets mapped to the VPN IP that was not there when the instance was started... so no listener on that interface... But of course, it can be a new problem... and it will stay like that until someone reports it... Regards. On Tue, May 8, 2012 at 11:05 PM, FRANK J. well, I looked in some log files, like alarm, located in INFORMIXDIR\\\\etc to
see if there were any diagnostic messages that would give me a clue to the
problem, but there was nothing related to the inability to connect to the
active instance. I ran onshutdown and it said IDS "seems: to have shutdown
properly, I restarted it (oninit) with no problems, but when in DBACCESS I
tried to connect to it, the same problem occured "Running..." and it froze
up!.. I have NETTYPE set to olsoctcp, then I tried localhost and nada!.. MAybe
it could have something to do with the onconfig Informix Support parameters?
