ESQL/C -- before starting over...
Posted in 1996
This posted request is in regards to obtaining basic routines, in C source code form, that are ideally callable from a Web CGI (Perl) program. Can any one point to an archive of ESQL/C routines for creating, manipulating, and administrating blob- and non-blob-based databases? After nine years at Digital Equipment Corp, where I ported PLEXUS Data Manager to ULTRIX, assisted PLEXUS/Recognition/Informix in merging TURBO and PDM to produce Informix Online 5.0 (with BLOB support), I am on my own. Now, that I can freely code agai, I'm also in the position to design and create/re-create numerous ESQL/C program libraries to cover basic Database DBA/DDL/DML functions, data exchange functions (BLOB-to-FAT/DOS file system, BLOB-to-UNIX/file system, etc.), and newer WEB/CGI-based functions. Advanced utilities to design stored procedures, triggers for common table relationships (master/detail, depends on, cascading deletes, etc.) would be appreciated if this exists. My client has Online 5.0.3 (perfect for what we need), and ESQL/C development licenses/kits for both MS-Windows and Digital UNIX (aka Digital OSF/1 3.x). Want to use Digital UNIX Perl-based CGI functions, and suites of desktop macros so WordPerfect Informs clients can access database routines. Could create a tested library suite in about two weeks, but am under some time crunch that wouldn't give me two weeks of coding time for about a month -- far too late for what I need to accomplish. Related question: Does anyone have workaround to compiling "GSQL" CGI library interface with Informix ESQL/C? It looks this Perl interface requires the 4GL/FORMS libraries in order to compile the toolkit. Sales rep said we didn't need Informix-SQL when purchasing INFORMIX-ESQLC (RT and Developer) and INFORMIX-ONLINE (ditto). Would rather avoid expense at this late date and get the operations up and running. Looking to use ESQL/C and ONLINE under UNIX and would like to start with GSQL functionality -- by Tuesday PM I'll have a workaround running but can appreciate any more elequent solutions.
