ontape -r failed.

Hello, I need help in restoring between different Versions of Informix. We updated one of our two identical datbases from IDS 9.21 to IDS 9.40. Now I need a restore of the 9.21 database into the 9.40 database. I did an ontape -s -L 0 and tried to restore with onmode -k and ontape -rThe message I got was: Physical restore failed - function read archive backup failed code -1 errno 0. Does it mean that it is not poosible to restore from Informix 9.21 into 9.40 or do I have to do something else? Thanks for help F. David

9.21 restores restore on 9.21 9.40 restores restore on 9.40 9.21 restores do not restore on 9.40 restore on 9.21 and then upgrade or dbexport on 9.21 and dbimport on 9.40 F. I've been able to get away with restoring between short jumps in minor versions (i.e. 7.31.UC3 to 7.31.UC5) but never major versions. It's not supported, and I don't believe it is possible. Either 1. move the data using dbexport 2. construct a network link between the two servers and run an update between the two 3. High performance loader 4. install 9.21 on the target, restore, and then upgrade to 9.40 Good luck. Brice Avila F.
