RE: informix odbc and seagate crystal reports error
Posted in 2000
I know this is late, but I'm now able to clean out my CDI folder after Y2K issues. Try downloading Informix Client SDK for WinNT version 2.40.TC1-1 from www.intraware.com. It is the most recently released version and includes the Informix 32-bit ODBC driver version 3.31 as well as as a JDBC class driver (which you may not need now). Once this is installed (when prompted, let it be installed to C:\\Informix unless you've installed IECC to another directory; it should be in the same path as the IECC installtion), you need to do the following: - Run Control Panel -> ODBC Data Sources (the 32-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator applet). - Click the System DSN tab (if you wish anyone on the PC to use the DSN you're about to configure) or the User DSN tab (if you only want the current user to axcess the DSN you're configuring). - Click the Add button. - Since you've probably setup an Informix DSN before, I won't enlighten you on all the fields; they're pretty self-explanatory. The reason you're getting the error is that the Translation Library field on the Environment Tab is not setup. With SDK 2.40 installed this field should be set to: C:\\Informix\\bin\\igo4n304.dll (or if you have SDK installed somewhere else, you need to replace C:\\Informix by that path). What you can do even before downloading SDK 2.40 (although I'd still advise getting SDK 2.40 because of the new improved Informix ODBC 32-bit driver 3.31; it is faster than the previous versions, including the driver that comes with IECC), check your <IECC installation directory>\\bin folder for the igo4n304.dll file. If it is there, then edit your DSN to include this file (specified using the absolute path as shown above; if you've been crazy like me and installed your Informix products in C:\\Program Files\\Informix, then you need to specify the path as C:\\Progra~1\\Informix\\bin\\igo4n304.dll). If, however, you're getting the error message even before you get to edit the properties of the DSN (i.e. immediately after choosing the ODBC driver) then you may want to check that the C:\\Informix\\bin folder (or whatever) is included in your PATH variable. We're just beginning to move forward with Seagate Info V7 report development; we were unable to get the ODBC drivers working because of this error message and it's only when we got IDS 7.31 that we got an updated manual (Informix ODBC Driver Programmer's Guide Version 3.3). This manual specified (though not too clearly) how to setup the DSN. If you don't have the manual, contact your Informix rep and tell him to get you Informix-Answers Online 3.1 (I believe that's the latest version); it's a CD with almost 600MB of Informix Manuals in Acrobat PDF 4.0 format.
