The simplest way to insert data to your table is to use the "load"
statement in "dbaccess" e.g.
load from "filename.asc"
insert into tablename;
where "filename.asc" is your ascii data file, with fields delimited
by "pipes". The ascii file must have the same number of fields as
the table.
There are other utilities, depending on the complexity/size of your
data load. The command line utility "dbload" is more flexible and
will allow you to load selected fields from your file. The "High
Performance Loader" is very fast, but it takes a while to configure.
I'd only recommend the HPL for large (> 10,000,000 rows) data loads.
