Re: Archecker Doc

Archecker is an undocumented addition to the 7.30 product, and will be fully documented and supported in the coming 9.2 release. (And perhaps in 7.31, though the product documentation probably won't be revised for the minor revision number.) It should be in the "Backup and Restore Guide" volume of TFM. Archecker is a very nice utility that checks an archive for all the pages required for a restoration. It is restartable after stopping in mid-job and works by itself or with third-party tape management solutions. <rant> As nice as it is, remember to be incredibly paranoid about your archives. DO NOT (IMHO) trust in "success" messages on backup, archecker and its kin, and any single (or double, ...) point of failure. Huge holes come in the ability of your operators or successors to implement your archive plans. Will they have to drag you off vacation to get some files restored? How do you *know* that? When was the last time you tested it, and were you able to complete the test without showing someone how? Did you restore to a totally new offsite machine and then run the checks and the application against your restoration? Have you archived the configuration data for the network? The source code for the application? And on and on and on... Remember, at the end of the day, it's *your* job on the line. All the excuses and blame and finger-pointing and perfectly rational reasons why don't mean a thing to management when the business is halted because of a task they entrusted you to do. </rant> Hope that helps, Clem At 08:49 AM 15-01-99 -0500, Dave McNight wrote: >I have noticed the mention of archecker in the group, can anyone tell >me where there is some documentation on how to use it?
