Sounds like you are trying to unpack the ar archive from my utils2_ak package containing the myschema source. That archive is a UNIX System V compatible archive. While HP supports System V ar on HPUX/Itanium the ar utility on HPUX/PA-RISC is still a BSD format utility. You have three choices: 1- Unpack the archive on the Itanium or other System V compatible machine and move the files some other way (ftp, rcp -R, tar, cpio, etc.) 2- Get GNU ar which is System V compatible and compile it on the PA-RISC machine. 3- Get my ar2 utility (you can download it from the IIUG Repository). My ar2 is capable of reading and creating ar archives in three formats: SysV, BSD, and its own portable format. Once you have it you can either use it on Itanium to build a BSD compatible archive from the unpacked source (use the -d flag to enable BSD format output) or use it on PA-RISC to unpack the original archive (no flags needed ar2 detects archive type when it reads the header and catalog). I wrote ar2 when I was consulting to enable moving files easily from system to system. Art S.
