ODBC troubles

I'm new to Informix, (I'm a networker) so bear with me.. We have Informix 7.2..1 on AIX and I'm trying to connect via ODBC. Using the ODBC connection I type in the Databasename, Hostname which is the FQDN, Username PW etc.. My troubles are in the Servicename and Protocaltype fields. I'm guessing Servicename as tcp, and onsotcp as this was a default. I know I have tcp running on the AIX, as it is listed in the etc/services. And using MS-Access to connect to the ODBC I get a "Cannot locate tcp service/tcp service in etc/services, Unknown error message 11004" Any help would be greatly appreciated...
It should be onsoctcp at the PC end, can't remember at the AIX end. The port number you are trying to connect to at the AIX end should be in the services file on the PC, if it isn't then you need to connect via the port number. If you are under Win9x then the services file should be in $WINDOWS, under NT it should be under $WINNT/system32/drivers/etc, under Win2000 I don't know but it's probably $WIN2000/lets/move/bastard/again BMSI wrote: > > I'm new to Informix, (I'm a networker) so bear with me.. > We have Informix 7.2..1 on AIX and I'm trying to connect via ODBC. > Using the ODBC connection I type in the Databasename, Hostname which > is the FQDN, Username PW etc.. Here's what I got so far...
On the AIX box /etc/services
ifx1_tcp1 1540/tcp # Informix
ifx1 1541/tcp # Informix
Informix73/etc/sqlhosts
ifx1 onsoctcp mishost ifx1
ifx1_tcp1 onsoctcp mishost ifx1_tcp1
On the Win95 box /WINDOWS/services
ifx1_tcp1 1540/tcp # Informix
ifx1 1541/tcp # Informix
With this I get the ubiquitous error:
"INFORMIXSERVER does not match either DBSERVERNAME or DBSERVERALIASES"
To which I reply... UGH
Thanks again for any help..

You need to set the INFORMIXSERVER at the PC end to ifx1 or ifx1_tcp,
use Ilogin to ensure it works, a stores not found is a good thing to
see, as is -464(?) (basically esql rt is not there). Once you are happy
Ilogin is connecting transfer the values into setnet32 and whoa as
if by magic it will work
