Reg: Max size allowed in creation of dbspace
Posted in 2003
Poster couldn't create a 5-6 GB dbspace with onspaces, hitting an apparent ~2 GB limit. Replies clarified the 2 GB cap applies to an individual chunk, not to a dbspace: create the dbspace with a 2 GB initial chunk and add further 2 GB chunks (each at an appropriate offset) to reach 6 GB. It was also noted that versions before 9.40 limit chunks to 2 GB, while 9.4 allows chunks up to 4 TB. The rest of the thread is joking about a duplicated post.

Hi ,
I need to create a dbspace of abt 5-6 GB.
on using onspaces to create the dbspace i am limited in size to
about 2.09 GB
is there a way to create a dbspaces of about 6 GB
or is there a size restriction ?
Thanks for any help

the restriction of 2 GB is only for a chunk, not for a dbpsace

add more chunks to it. Each chunk should start with a different offset
of 0 if you want full 2GB to be allocated to a single chunk.

The restriction of 2Gbytes applies to a chunk, not a dbspace. A dbspace is
made up of one or many chunks. Therefore you can make a 6Gbyte dbspace by
creating it with a 2GByte initial chunk, then adding 2 further 2Gbyte chunks
to it.

Prior to 9.4, the max size of a chunk is 2GB. With 9.4, you can make a
chunk as large as 4TB.

You would need to create an initial dbspace of 2GB, then add 2GB
chunks to the dbspace in order to get a total size of 6GB. Versions
prior to 9.40 limit chunk sizes to 2GB.
