Blade for blob size
Posted in 2011
Topics: Platform-Specific Issues
We need a way to retrieve the size of a blob. Informix doesn't
provide that information via "Length()" or any other built-in
functionality. IBM has made available a freely downloadable blade,
"sblob_info", which provides that functionality, but it is not
officially supported.
The download file contains the source and a make file, but is written
assuming the presence of the Sun C Compiler. It happens also to
include a precompiled blade for Solaris, which is our environment. I
can successfully register the blade, but when I try to use it, I get
the following message in the log:
15:09:57 Loading Module <$INFORMIXDIR/extend/sblob_info.1.5/
sblob_info.bld>
15:09:57 (2): The C Language Module <$INFORMIXDIR/extend/sblob_info.
1.5/sblob_info.bld> can't load reason: Cannot access library file
15:09:57 (-1): ERROR: Loading Module <$INFORMIXDIR/extend/sblob_info.
1.5/sblob_info.bld>
Is there a way to tell, specifically, which file is causing the
problem?
We don't have the Sun C Compiler. Might the error message result from
the absence of official Sun C Compiler (missing Sun C libraries)?
We do have the GUN C Compiler, and I could recompile it, but it's a
little tedious to edit the associated files. I mean, the GNU and Sun
C compiler command line options, etc. aren't always the same, and I
could easily miss something.
Thank you for any comments.

hmmm nice where did you get it??
i'd like to have a copy..
what does
ls -l e $INFORMIXDIR/extend/sblob_info. 1.5/sblob_info.bld
say does it exist and it should have r-xr-xr-x as permission....

Hello Fernando, thanks, got it, compiled it on linux and it does work... Read the readme or change the makefile sblob_infoU.mak so that #include $(TARGET) is changed to: include /opt/informix/incl/dbdk/makeinc.linux Superboer On 16 mrt, 11:04, Fernando Nunes <domusonl...@gmail.com> wrote: > On Wed, Mar 16, 2011 at 7:29 AM, Superboer <superbo...@t-online.de> wrote: > > hmmm nice where did you get it?? > > i'd like to have a copy.. > > http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/zones/informix/library/techart... > > Regards. > -- > Fernando Nunes > Portugal > > http://informix-technology.blogspot.com > My email works... but I don't check it frequently...
