11.7 - REMOTE_SERVER_CFG

I would benefit greatly from being able to manage my own hosts.equiv; as /etc/hosts.equiv is owned by root and I have to jump through hoops to update. I have an HDR pair setup on separate servers for testing. On the secondary node, I set the REMOTE_SERVER_CFG value in ONCONFIG and bounce the instance. My hosts.equiv will contain 2 entries for the Primary server - 'hostname' & 'hostname.domain'. This doesn't seem to do the trick though as I keep coming across -956 errors in the secondary server's online log. listener-thread: err = -956: oserr = 0: errstr = informix@'hostname.domain': Client host or user informix@'hostname.domain' is not trusted by the server. IF I switch back to use ONLY /etc/hosts.equiv, it works just fine. I clearly see in the message log where it's caching in both /etc/hosts.equiv and my newly created hosts.equiv. What am I missing?
Got s=6 in your sqlhosts file perhaps ? where is your hosts.equiv file? You don't need to bounce the instance. add user informix to the file... not just the hostname On Aug 29, 2013 3:43 PM, "JACOB SHADIX" <jacobshadix@gmail.com> wrote: > I would benefit greatly from being able to manage my own hosts.equiv; as > /etc/hosts.equiv is owned by root and I have to jump through hoops to > update. > I have an HDR pair setup on separate servers for testing. You can also use the .rhosts file on the remote server for the incoming ser= ver and ID. This goes under the ID on the database server and you can mana= ge, without disturbing the Systems Admin to add it to the /etc/hosts.equiv.= This is for UNIX base. Windows is another thought. That brings again the permissions issue and it may open the door to allow he users to establish non authorized trusts. Forget all that and use REMOTE_SERVER_CFG... for years we listened complains from customers (just complaints I may say). Now that it's solved, please don't look back! This should be under DBA control.
