Erm, ....
I *have* to ask the obvious question: why on *earth* are you using a
char(1000)?
Anyway, FWIW, I'd use an INPUT ARRAY and just concatenate the strings
together...
But if you're just trying to get the user to enter lots of text, I'd far
rather use a detail table which joined on the primary key of the main table
and had a line number. That way you don't have waste 991 bytes on every
record! :-)
In other words:
create table main_tab
(
key_val serial,
....
last_field int
)
create table det_tab
(
foreign_key int,
line_num smallint,
text_stuff char(80)
)
In the example, det_tab.foreign_key joins to main_tab.key_val and you now
have pseudo varchars of unrestricted length.
