This is Regarding older version of IDS - IDS 7.3.1 UC3
Once the Database is taken down ( oninit ) , is it necessary to perform a
Level 0 Restoration in order to bring the database online.
Thanking you in advance
Vikas
Hi,
no.
You bring it up with the command "oninit", just like that,
and without parameters. It will start the server and the
server will do a fast recovery to restore consistency
(in case there was inconsistency due to some things
in buffers only, but not yet on disk), and then it will be
useable again (in on-line mode).
BTW: To bring down the server in an orderly fashion,
use the command "onmode -uk" or a variation thereof.
Restore is only necessary if something got really damaged,
like a disk failure, fire in the machine room, etc. ;-)
Regards,
Martin

Hi,
I think you tried to bring the engine down with oninit -i command. This
is NOT the command to bring the engine down but to initialize an new
instance (which is then empty).
Use onmode -uk to bring down the engine (or onmode -ukcy for shutdown
without asking and additional checkpoint).
Use oninit (without -i) to bring the engine up again (or oninit -v to
see what is happening, this method leaves a file descriptor open,
meaning if you do it from a ssh/telnet session, the exit command will
not close the session ! (but you can safely close the client).

I am so sorry , i could not frame my question properly and neighter have i
given the exact scenario.
My appoligies to Martin Fuerderer and Marcus Haarmann
There is a Primary and HDR ( secondry ) setup .
After breaking the sync If one take the DB( primary) down with onmode -cuky .
In this case if i bring the DB up using "oninit - " and now i want to bring
the HDR instance up then is it necessary to Restore the Level 0 of Primary
server on to the Secondry server in order establish the sync and bring the HDR
instance up.
Note : Whily the sync was broken there was no change made to the primary .

Hi,
Forgiven ;)
In case you bring the primary instance down and the secondary was not
touched (onmode -d standard), but is still in secondary state, the two
instances should sync without re-setup of the HDR.
You can always shut down either secondary or primary and when the
instance comes up again, the instances will find each other
automatically (unless you modify the HDR status using onmode -d).
If I remember correct, there could be a point when secondary is down and
primary still running, when primary stops responding because it is not
possible for the instance to send the logs to the secondary while it is
down.
The solution is to either bring up the secondary again or drop the HDR
connection and re-setup using level0 Archive after the secondary server
is accessible again. But that should not be necessary after a simple
reboot or shutdown/restart of any instance.
Hope this makes things clear.
