7.27.93 I need some help understanding the cause of a particular error message which has begun to appear from time to time on a client machine in our c-s environment. It's error # 1257 - O/S can not fork process for backend. The description says to look to the console for O/S messages but there are none. I've checked kernal tuning parameters for NPROCS etc and they're all maxed out. About the only thing I can find as a cause is that available RAM is low when this error occurs. However everytime RAM drops low the error does not appear. Has anyone run into this before? Suggestions appreciated. BTW, the machine is runnning Sys V Rel. 4.2.1, I4GL 4.1, I-NET 4.0 and that's it. The OnLine engine, sitting on another machine, is 5.0. And in case anyone is wondering why I don't have I-Net 4.1 running on the client it's be- cause I-Net 4.1 runs at 50% the speed as 4.0. Thanks.
